WHAT IS TECHNE’?

TECHNE is a tool for observing the complexity of the European Route of Ceramics. TECHNE is a map whose spots are recounted through interviews, stories and observations. Visual materials comes from different points of views, the word is given to people and objects.

Pilot action: The goal is to ehnance the cultural heritage of the European Route of Ceramics. Preservation and empowerment of the ceramic ‘know how’.
The tool provides the knowledge base and technical approach that have been developed in each Member’s destination.

(1.)
START FROM YOUR DESTINATION

Each member on the European Route of Ceramics has a traditional pottery story to tell

Pilot action: we began our pilot action in Faenza, headquarters of the European Route of Ceramics and a city
with an ancient history in the production of ceramics, better known as “majolica.”

(2.)
CONSULTING WITH EXPERTS

Collection of experiences and specific notions about the history of your destination through professionals in the field

Meet the experts in your city: consulting with expert figures in the field of ceramics (professors, lathe turners, potters, and curators) is essential to learn about the know-how and what makes each destination’s ceramic production unique.

Pilot action: for Faenza, we meet a professor of ISIA, the Higher Institute for Artistic Industries in Faenza; he is an expert in ceramic techniques and an artist who has been able to explain how Faenza’s ceramic production became a world-renowned trademark. Moreover, meeting with lathe turners from the Mondial Tornianti association was crucial to understand the Faenza’s know-how.

(3.)
DISCOVER WHAT MAKES EACH MEMBER UNIQUE

Analyse the ceramics sector in your city and break it down into its main categories.

Pilot action: we have divided our research in 4 subjects: Ceramic workshops, Industries, Museums and Associations.
Each member of the Route can create its own content by choosing one or more of the identified categories.

(4.)
DESCRIBE ONE SUBJECT

What are the main aspects and features of that subject, find and analyze the existing reality.

Pilot Action: in Faenza we chose to focus on Ceramic Workshop, which is the most explanatory reality of Faenza

(5.)
CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT TO SHOW AND FIND YOUR MOST EFFICIENT WAY

Understand which aspects are most interesting to emphasize and develop the creative tool to represent and explain it

Pilot action: in Faenza we want to show the different techniques used and their processing. We chose to make short demonstration videos of the potters at work with a story telling of the ceramic workshops.

(6.)
PROMOTE YOUR DESTINATION

Make your research results accessible to users through a nice and user friendly way, able to attract new visitors

Pilot action: for Faenza we develop and implement a website, using efficient graphic design to guide users.
