The city is crossed by the River Vienne and is located 220 km north-east of Bordeaux, 290 km north of Toulouse and 390 km south of Paris. In the old part of the city, one can admire the the Saint-Étienne cathedral, an extraordinary example of Gothic art. The streets of the old city are also characterised by the old half-timbered houses. In addition to its architectural and cultural heritage, the city offers exceptional natural sites.

The Adrien Dubouché National Museum, opened in 1845, has the largest public collection of Limoges porcelain in the world. The works represent all the key stages in the history of ceramics, from Antiquity to the present day, a total of 18,000 works from al over the world of which 5,000 are currently on display. The visit starts with the various steps involved in porcelain manufacture, then reveals the key moments in the history of ceramics, from Antiquity to the present day, and finishes with an exhibition of Limoges porcelain.

Ceramic Network is organized by the “Pôle Européen de la Céramique” (the European Cluster of Ceramics) and it’is the major French event of the ceramic industry. For the past 27 years, Ceramic Network has been bringing together professionals from the ceramic sector. Every 3 years, attendees can take part in BtoB meetings, thematic conferences, site visits as well as a gala dinner. They will also find new partnership opportunities as well as discover innovations and new applications for ceramics. Ceramic Network is THE major French event of the ceramic industry.

The Lycée des professions Arts et Techniques – Mas Jambost is a public vocational high school located in Limoges and part of the Limoges Academy. Its training programmes include those related to the trade of the ceramist, such as the BMA programme. This programme includes not only general technological education, but also training in the management of raw materials, knowledge of working tools and the history of ceramic art styles. Furthermore Limoges has developed a partnership with the Lycée des Métiers d’Art du Mas-Jambost for the creation and production of porcelain trays for health promotion. In fact, since 2019, the production and delivery of porcelain trays to kindergartens has begun, aimed at replacing melamine plates.

The Ceramic Research Institute (IRCER) is devoted to the transformations of matter involved in processing of bulk ceramics and processing used in surface treatment. The laboratory activities are situating at the intersection of materials science – mostly ceramics – and process engineering.
The multidisciplinary approach brings together, in four complementary research axes, teams made up of researchers and teacher-researchers from different scientific fields (chemistry, physics, mechanics).
